This year has been the Ja Morant show. Memphis found their guy in the 2019 draft, and the rookie point guard is taking over the league while ushering Memphis into a new era. The Grit and Grind era is over in Memphis, and a flashy fast-paced approach led by Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. has begun.
July 31st vs. Portland Trail Blazers: Loss
Damian Lillard is still better than Morant at this point in their careers, and he has experience in the postseason. Lillard is known for coming through in clutch situations, and this regular season has been no exception. Morant has never been to the playoffs, and it will show in this game.
August 2nd vs. San Antonio Spurs: Loss
This will be a tough loss for Memphis, as the Spurs are a team that will likely miss out on the playoffs. However, the three-month hiatus will hinder this young Grizzlies team.
August 3rd vs. New Orleans Pelicans: Loss
This matchup will bring fans Ja Morant versus Zion Williamson. Two of the league’s best rookies will go head to head, and the Grizzlies will lose this game to a more talented and seasoned Pelicans squad.
August 5th vs. Utah Jazz: Win
This game will mark a big win for Memphis, seeing as losing three straight would hurt their playoff chances. The Jazz are dealing with internal problems, and the Grizzlies will take advantage of this. Healthy team chemistry is one of the most important factors for team success.
August 7th vs. Oklahoma City Thunder: Loss
Chris Paul will teach Ja Morant the ropes of how to lead a team during a playoff push in this game. The difference in experience between the two leaders of these teams are significant, and experience will win this game.
August 9th vs. Toronto Raptors: Win
The Grizzlies have a very tough schedule, but winning one game against a top seed is not unfathomable. Beating the Raptors will revive the young Grizzlies as they try to regain traction in the Western Conference.
August 11th vs. Boston Celtics: Loss
The Grizzlies are just overmatched at every position in this one. Besides Morant, the team has no one who can compare to the Celtics’ starters. This young team will be out-played on both ends of the floor.
August 13th vs. Milwaukee Bucks: Loss
Giannis Antetokounmpo will be the reason why the Grizzlies will lose this game.
The Grizzlies will struggle in Orlando, finishing the season with a 2-6 record. This could ultimately mean that they do not make the playoffs or that they will have to participate in a play-in series. Either way, Memphis had a tremendous season and it’s unfortunate to see Morant’s rookie year tarnished by a global pandemic.
