Chiefs Keep Chris Jones in Fold With 4-Year Extension

Almost two weeks ago, Chris Jones said that if he did not have a new contract in place, he would sit out the 2020 season.

He perceived his market value across the league as a player deserving of $20 million per year. On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs obliged (and then some) with a four-year deal worth $85 million that includes $60 million in guarantees and $37 million due at signing.

After a new contract for Patrick Mahomes, Jones was next on the list of offseason priorities for the Super Bowl champions, who have kept their roster mostly intact as the quest for a repeat begins.

A first-time Pro Bowler in 2019, Jones has accumulated 33 sacks, 72 quarterback hits and seven forced fumbles in 61 games (41 starts). He becomes the third-highest paid defensive tackle in the league based on average annual salary, trailing only Aaron Donald and DeForest Buckner.
