Manchester City vs. Liverpool Preview

It’s a battle between the last two Premier League champions. Liverpool will be playing in their first match since being crowned 2019-2020 champions. They’ll be doing so on the grounds of Manchester City. While the title race is over each of these clubs will want to prove who is best in English football.

City manager Pep Guardiola has said his side will give Liverpool a guard of honour before the match as they deserve it. That is top class from a manager while recognizing what Liverpool have endured during its 30-year title drought.

Once the ball is kicked, though, the warm and fuzzy feelings will end. The Citizens want to prove this could be a strong rivalry going forward.

The reverse fixture saw Liverpool win 3-1 in dominating fashion. While it wasn’t without VAR controversy, Liverpool proved that night that they were laser focused on claiming the title this season.

This matchup might feel strange as there isn’t really much to play for standings-wise. However, it feels like this game will have long-lasting implications that carry into next season.

Tactics-wise, both play a high-pressing tempo that will be fascinating to watch. The players must be quick and decisive in their decisions to prevent a sloppy turnover which could result in an easy goal.

This big matchup should feature the best and most talented players as both teams are healthy. Only Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is set to miss out due to injury.

The only thing missing was the possibility of Liverpool claiming the title on City’s ground, but otherwise, fans won’t be disappointed.

Prediction: City 2, Liverpool 2
