After drafting Pete Crow-Armstrong to an organization that prides itself on developing talent, the Mets have their eyes set on some intriguing pieces for Day 2 of the MLB Draft.
The Mets have been heavily scouting Mississippi right-hander J.T. Ginn, who went unsigned after being drafted 30th overall by the Dodgers in 2018. Ginn has one of the best fastballs in the draft, reaching 98 miles-per-hour. He mixes that with a high-80’s wipeout slider that has some scouts giving him a 65 grade.
Another player the Mets have kept an eye on is Georgia right-hander Cole Wilcox. Wilcox has some of the best pure “stuff” in the draft, featuring a fastball that touches triple-digits and has great vertical movement on it. He pairs that with a 65-grade changeup and a 55-grade slider to form a true three-pitch arsenal.
The Mets have also scouted a third baseman from Desoto Central High School by the name of Blaze Jordan.
Jordan has some light-tower power and won a home run derby at 13 years old, as well as the High School one last July in Cleveland. Some scouts question his ability to hit for average, but he has been working to lose weight and improve his zone, as well as his defense at the hot corner.
A final name that the Mets have expressed interest in is Texas Tech right-hander, Clayton Beeter. Beeter has an explosive fastball mixed with a wipeout curveball and nasty slider. He also has a hidden changeup that scouts view as slightly above-average and may play well as a fourth pitch.
He tunnels his pitches very well for an overhand pitcher and will look to improve his health once drafted.
