Source: Mets Prioritizing Outfielders and College Pitching in Draft

The New York Mets have a few names linked to them ahead of the MLB Draft on Wednesday night.

They have the 19th overall pick in the first round and are looking to add pitching to their hitting-heavy farm system.

One source indicated that the Mets would prefer to go after college arms, with a potential Plan B being high-school bats.  A few names that Mets are high on for the upcoming draft are Tennessee southpaw Garrett Crochet and Oklahoma right-hander Cade Cavalli, as well as Texas high school right-hander Jared Kelley.

Many scouts view Crochet as an immediate impact should the season resume. The teams will be allowed to carry 50 players for this season so Crochet, who is an advanced college arm, may be able to make the leap and help out a big-league bullpen.

He has drawn some comparisons to Chris Sale because of his big frame and high velocity.

If the Mets choose to go with a hitter, they have been closely scouting Missispi’s second-baseman Justin Foscue.  He is considered to have one of the highest floors of any position player and has seen his offensive production increase in each of the last three seasons.

Only time will tell who the Mets choose, but one should feel confident that the Mets will make the right choice as they historically have been pretty good at the draft.
