Report: Buccaneers Re-Sign Kevin Minter

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers followed today’s signing of versatile offensive lineman Joe Haeg (details here) by re-signing seven-year veteran linebacker Kevin Minter.

The deal is for one year and, although the exact salary is not yet known, ESPN’s Field Yates is reporting the deal will incorporate the “Veteran Salary Benefit” rule created in the new collective bargaining agreement; approved last weekend.

The new rule allows NFL teams to re-sign as many as two veterans with a minimum of four years of service and exclude as much as $1.25 million of the subsequent cap hit.

Minter, 29, has played a key reserve role with the Buccaneers over the past two seasons including a four-game stretch with the absence of then-rookie first-rounder Devin White early in the 2019 season.

Minter tallied 29 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two passes defended over that span while also still filling his usual role as one of Tampa Bay’s most critical contributors on special teams.

Minter’s 325 special teams snaps in 2019 led all Buccaneers. He was featured on every unit outside of the field goal team.
