In an early Tuesday morning move, the New York Giants signed free agent linebacker Blake Martinez. The former Green Bay Packer and the Giants agreed to a three-year contract worth $30 million.

The fourth round-pick by the Packers in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Stanford, Martinez is coming off of a 155-tackle performance last season. He posted two consecutive 144-tackle seasons in 2017 and 2018.
This is the second move by the Giants that addressed much-needed improvement on defense. They also agreed to a deal with former Carolina Panthers cornerback James Bradberry on Monday. Bradberry was a draft pick of former Panthers general manager and current Giants general manager Dave Gettleman.
The linebacker position is one that the Giants were looking to bolster, as they were reportedly interested in former Patriots linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who on Monday decided to take his talents to South Beach.
The Giants are looking to improve on their lackluster 4-12 season in 2019.
