Report: Bengals Placing Tag on A.J. Green

The Cincinnati Bengals are placing the franchise tag on wide receiver A.J Green.

The former No. 4 overall pick missed seven games in 2018 and all of 2019 with an ankle injury.

Green was expected to make his debut in early November against Baltimore, but setbacks to his recovery ultimately held him out for the entire season.

With the injury history of the seven-time Pro Bowler and the emergence of Tyler Boyd as a go-to receiver, some expected the Bengals to move on from Green and look to get a younger receiver somewhere in the draft. That said, the Bengals are bringing back the longtime standout playmaker in hopes of a healthy and productive 2020.

Green was a Pro Bowler every year from 2011 to 2017, and the Bengals are hoping that a year of healing can get Green back to the level of production they are accustomed to.
