Broncos Acquire A.J. Bouye from Jacksonville

The Denver Broncos have completed a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars that sends cornerback A.J. Bouye to Denver in exchange for a 2020 4th round pick. The trade cannot be processed until the start of the new league year, however.

Bouye is 28 years old and has spent seven years in the NFL. Four seasons with the Houston Texans and the other three with Jacksonville. In his career he’s registered 14 interceptions 315 tackles and has played right, left and slot corner as well as taken reps at safety.

With the addition of Bouye, the Broncos Cornerback depth starts to take shape. With DeVaunte Bausby and Bryce Callahan, Bouye will slide in as a starter.

Pro-Bowler Chris Harris Jr. is likely on his way out of Denver after many reports that the two sides aren’t on the same page, so this move should solidify that the Broncos aren’t pursuing Harris anymore.

Bryce Callahan will be healthy and should touch the field in 2020. Bausby was placed on injured reserve last season with a neck injury and wasn’t tendered this season, which means the team believes there will not be a market for him. He did, however, show that he can be a quality starter in the NFL and will be crucial for the Broncos defense.

The Broncos have gone out and grabbed an impact player for a fourth-round pick and shored up an area of need. This trade also ensures the team will likely not select a corner with either of its first two picks in the 2020 NFL Draft.

It was presumed by fans that the Broncos would be in contention for prized free-agent cornerback Byron Jones, but this move makes that scenario less likely. Not to say the team is done building out it’s secondary, but adding a starting-caliber player seemingly patches the glaring hole Harris would be leaving.
