The New England Revolution won their first U.S. Open Cup Match against the Rochester Rhinos Thursday by a score of 3-0.

How it happened

As expected, New England took care of business in this one. Rochester played hard in the first half, but in the 40th minute defender Joseph Farrell received a red card, leaving the Rhinos with 10 men.

Just four minutes later the Revolution capitalized when Zachary Herivaux drew a penalty kick that was put away just before the half by Teal Bunbury.

Jay Heaps didn’t slow down after this as the Revolutions Donnie Smith scored in the 50th minute and Herivaux got involved again with a goal in the 51st to lead 3-0.

From there on out it was smooth sailing for the MLS side.
