Is Daniel Jones Already a Better Quarterback than Dak Prescott?

The Dallas Cowboys, led by Dak Prescott, finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs for the second time in their quarterback’s four-year career.

The Cowboys’ fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State in 2016 was thrust into action due to a serious back injury to longtime Cowboys fan-favorite Tony Romo. Then 23, Prescott led Dallas to a 13-3 record but lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.

The open was promising, the rest has left a lot to be desired.

His career record as a starter is 40-24. Prescott has completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 15,778 yards, 97 touchdowns, and 36 interceptions. He has also rushed for 1,221 yards on 241 carries –– including 21 touchdowns.

The playoffs are a different story, and Prescott has a record of 1-2 in three games. Dak Prescott has completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 794 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 45 yards on 10 carries and two scores.

Prescott is 26 years old. It appears as if Owner Jerry Jones doesn’t know if he wants to franchise tag him or not.

His personal numbers aren’t bad, yet there are rumors that the Dallas Cowboys could be moving on from him in the offseason in favor of potential free-agent quarterback Tom Brady.

Could this potentially mean that New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is already better than Dak Prescott? If the media and other people thought at one point thought Prescott was the best quarterback in the division, why hasn’t Jerry Jones paid him then yet?

In the long run, one person who might know that answer is ex-Cowboys head coach –– current Giants offensive coordinator –– Jason Garrett. The other is Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

The answer could be that Jones wants some leverage, but it is also a business, and that is the way how sports operate. If Jerry Jones moves off of Dak Prescott, this means that he knows that Dak can’t lead them to the Super Bowl, an accomplishment Dallas hasn’t seen since the 1995-96 season.

That would mean that there will be a lot of people believing that 22-year-old Daniel Jones is already a better quarterback than Dak Prescott.

Prescott had Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, a solid offensive line, and a lot of various help on the defensive side of the ball.

What does Daniel Jones have to work with right now? He does have Saquon Barkley in the backfield and a decent wide receiver crew like Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton.

Jones helped developed Kaden Smith into a solid tight end. Evan Engram is usually hurt at the tight end position.

Daniel Jones’s offensive line was not as good as Dak Prescott’s. He also did not have a very good defense to deal with as well.

Jones started 12 games last season, completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 3,027 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Jones also rushed for 279 yards on 45 carries and scored two touchdowns.

He was drafted sixth overall out of Duke University, and this could be an interesting debate between these two quarterbacks moving forward.

As long as Daniel Jones works on his fumbling issues, he will be in good hands moving forward as a franchise quarterback in the NFL over Dak Prescott because Jones may have a higher ceiling than him at all levels of his passing game.
