Breaking: Warriors Swap Russell for Minnesota’s Wiggins

The D’Angelo Russell experiment in Golden State is over.

Just after 1 p.m., Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that D’Angelo Russell, along with Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman, was traded to the Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, a 2021 protected first-round pick, and a 2022 second-round pick.

For a team like the Warriors that is rebuilding, this trade makes sense. Russell is a great young player with a lot of potential, averaging 23.6 points per game, but the Warriors were looking to acquire future assets in return, which they got in draft compensation through this trade –– as well as Andrew Wiggins (averaging 22.4 points on 44.4 percent shooting).

For the Timberwolves, who don’t really have the answer at point guard, this could be just what they need to inject some life into the franchise, which sits at 14th in the West, just above the Warriors.

Oh, and it also might do wonders for keeping Karl-Anthony Towns happy.
