Bruins’ Sean Kuraly Catching Fire After Slow Start

Over the years, Sean Kuraly has become an important part of the Bruins’ roster. The former fifth-round pick came into the season following a career year. That only raised expectations as Kuraly continued to improve in every aspect. After a slow start, Kuraly has provided a spark offensively as the Bruins have been without the services of Patrice Bergeron. While Kuraly will not be expected to carry the Bruins all season, his recent stretch has been a reminder of the impact he makes.

In 25 games this season, Kuraly has two goals and seven assists. The Ohio native has again helped make the Bruins’ bottom lines a strength. Like in years past, he has come through in timely moments when the Bruins need a shutdown shift or momentum change.

Additionally, Kuraly is excelling on both ends of the ice. The 26-year-old has recorded 46 hits and eight blocked shots. He has landed 41 shots on net and is averaging a career-high 13:53 minutes of ice time per game. Kuraly also has one point on the power play, which he had failed to accomplish before this season.

While Kuraly’s defense has always been his strength, the added offense has provided a boost. His goal on Friday afternoon came at the perfect time as it tied the game at two, shifting the momentum in the Bruins’ favor. In Boston’s past three games, he has five points, including a season-high three against Montreal earlier this week.

Although nine points is not a high number, it is almost one-third of what Kuraly finished with last season. Since the former 133rd overall pick made his debut, Kuraly’s offensive numbers have improved every year. This season has been no different, especially with his recent surge.

As the Bruins look to stay on top of the Eastern Conference, they will need their secondary scoring to produce. As of late, that has been one of their strengths with key players out. Kuraly has been a big part of that as he is making plays every time he is on the ice.

While the season is far from over, the Bruins have already proven that they are one of the league’s best teams. Every night, they seemingly find a different way to win due to players like Kuraly stepping up. This is a trend that they hope to continue as Kuraly could be on his way to another career year.
