Jaguars Name Healthy Nick Foles Starter As Gardner Minshew Moves To Bench

Minshew Mania is finally coming to an end as the Jacksonville Jaguars announced Tuesday that Nick Foles will reclaim the starting quarterback role from Gardner Minshew after their Week 10 bye.

Minshew took over the starting job in Week 2 after Nick Foles suffered a broken collarbone during their opening week to the Kansas City Chiefs. Since that point, Minshew has been a pleasant surprise.

As a rookie, Minshew had low expectations entering the season after being drafted late in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and was expected to take a backseat to the newly-signed Nick Foles. However, the injury to Foles led Minshew to be one of the most talked-about names in the NFL.

Through nine games, Minshew has amassed 2,285 passing yards and 13 touchdowns while leading the Jaguars to a 4-4 record during the games in which he started. Perhaps his biggest moment of the season was when he led a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter to defeat the Denver Broncos, 26-24, on a game-winning field goal.

The Jaguars will focus more on winning this season than developing Minshew, who may become a future star for this team. Today’s move is understandable; it definitely seems like a waste to let an $88 million contract sit on the bench.

The Jags will see how Foles performs in Week 11 versus their division rival, the Indianapolis Colts, and go from there, but as of now, this is Nick Foles’s football team.
