Report: The 49ers resign Jimmie Ward

Defensive back Jimmie Ward will return to San Francisco.

The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back one of their own.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network defensive back Jimmie Ward will return to San Francisco on a one-year deal worth five million dollars.

Ward, a 2014 first round draft pick, has failed to stay on the field due to injuries.

He has played just two full seasons in the first five years of his carer. In addition, he also had to deal with a position change from cornerback to safety.

The front office has viewed Ward as a “pro bowl caliber safety,” however he has yet produce anything resembling that projection.

San Francisco is giving Ward one more chance to develop into the player they thought they drafted in first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
