Last Friday at captain’s practice, Bruins captain Zdeno Chara announced he may not be ready for the regular-season opener against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 3.
The 42-year-old underwent surgery in his elbow and jaw this offseason to fix a broken jaw that he sustained after deflecting a puck in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals and removed loose bodies in his elbow.
“I’m not sure,” Chara said of his chances of being in the lineup and ready for Opening Night. “I think I should be, but it’s a process of making sure there are no setbacks or any discomfort. I think everything has been pretty much postponed by about six, seven weeks with all the surgeries I had and the rehab I had to go through. I’m still recovering, still working on being at full strength, so it’s still kind of going on, the process of getting stronger and healthier.”
