The 2018-2019 season for the Boston Bruins will be one to remember as it consisted of traveling to different countries, friendly feuds on social media, big time hits, playing outdoors, and having a chance at winning the Stanley Cup. Here are some of the top moments from this past season:
10. Patrice Bergeron’s hat trick vs. Ottawa Senators in the first home game of the season
Some people may not remember that this happened, but Bruins’ center Patrice Bergeron netted a hat trick during the Bruins’ home opener at TD Garden against the Ottawa Senators. He finished the night with three goals and one assist on Oct. 8, 2018.
9. Brad Marchand and Torey Krug’s twitter feud
Surprisingly, the biggest rivalry in hockey is not between two different teams but rather two different players on the same team. Left winger Brad Marchand and defenseman Torey Krug used Twitter to take jabs at each other when they are not competing together. Here are some of the interactions the two had this past season:
8. Brad Marchand joining Twitter….only to continue his trolling of Torey Krug
Just when the back and forth between Marchand and Krug could not get any better, the left winger decided to take to Instagram to continue his feud with Krug. His posts did not disappoint!
7. The China games
Both the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames spent a portion of their preseason traveling in China for two games. The Bruins were also able to travel to many famous landmarks between Shenzhen and Beijing.
6. Marchand’s McGregor Move & Conor McGregor Visit
During St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Boston, the Bruins brought in one of Ireland’s biggest stars to drop the puck and fire up the team ahead of their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Bruins and Blue Jackets went to overtime, where Brad Marchand scored and then imitated McGregor, ultimately creating a fan favorite moment for hockey fans all over the internet.
5. Bergeron’s 1,000th NHL Game
On Feb. 5, 2019 Patrice Bergeron became the fifth player in Bruins’ history to play 1,000 games with the team. However, the Bruins did not celebrate until before their game on Feb. 9.
4. Kuraly’s goal during the Winter Classic
This season the Chicago Blackhawks hosted the Winter Classic at Notre Dame Stadium agains the Bruins. The Bruins did not have the lead all game until halfway into the third period, when Bruins forward Sean Kuraly found the back of the net on a backhander to give the Black and Gold their first lead.
The Bruins would end up winning the game 4-2.
3. Pastrnak’s Game 5 GWG vs. Columbus
With 1:28 remaining in the third period of a tied Game 5 in their series against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Bruins got the lead thanks to David Pastrnak’s second goal of the night.
The Bruins would win the series in six games.
2. Beating Toronto in seven games…again
The last time the Bruins faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs was 2018 where that series also went to seven games. And before that, they faced Toronto again in 2013, winning in, yes, seven games.
This version of the series featured a new and brewing hatred between Leaf’s forward Nazem Kadri and Bruin’s forward Jake DeBrusk when Kadri found himself suspended for the remainder of the series after cross checking DeBrusk during Game 2.
The Bruins sealed the series victory on home ice with a 5-1 win.
1. Krug’s Hit during the Stanley Cup Final
It is not often that you see a 5’9″ defenseman launch a 6’0″ forward. But during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, Torey Krug of the Bruins did just that when he sent St. Louis Blues winger Robert Thomas flying.
It may have been the only highlight for the Bruins during the series as they lost in seven games.
