A Match Made in Heaven: John Ross and the Green Bay Packers

The Cincinnati Bengals are reportedly shopping former ninth overall pick, John Ross.

Ross was a projected second-round pick entering the 2017 draft, but after he ran a 4.22 40-yard dash, the Bengals over-drafted him early in the first round.

Ross has been a letdown since entering the NFL; in his rookie year, he played three games and had zero catches. Last year, he played in 13 games but only had 210 yards. He did haul in seven touchdowns.

There are reasons for his poor numbers, as Ross has had a career marred by injuries and inconsistent quarterback play, and a new fit is needed for him.

The Packers could be a good fit for Ross.

Ross can stretch the field vertically, and be dangerous on short passes or screens in a new offense which would be perfect for Matt LaFleur. He would have a cap hit of under $3 million for the next two seasons.

If Randall Cobb leaves, Ross could be the next guy up in the slot. While the Packers could make a move for Antonio Brown, Ross would be cheaper, younger and come with less drama.

Whether this deal is made comes down to how much the Bengals want. The Packers have 10 picks in the 2019 draft, and if the Bengals only want a pick in the later rounds, the Packers should make that move in a heartbeat.

Ross and the Bengals need to part ways for their own goods.

If Ross could come at the right price, the Packers should get this deal done at the combine.
