Giants Outfielder Makes Triumphant Return

On Tuesday the San Francisco Giants called up outfielder Mac Williamson from Triple-A Sacramento.

He joined the Giants in Colorado as they prepared to play the Rockies on Tuesday night.

In Sacramento, Williamson has a .378 batting average with nine home runs and OPS of 1.215. Recently, the 28-year-old has shown better plate discipline, which was what the Giants were looking for while monitoring Williamson’s great start.

On Monday night in Sacramento, Williamson slugged three home runs. One of his home runs was estimated to be in the 500-foot neighborhood.

Last season Williamson got called up and hit three home runs in five games. He ended up getting hurt when he suffered a concussion when he tripped over the bullpen mound in San Francisco. Williamson never returned due to lingering symptoms.

At the end of Spring Training this season, Williamson was designated for assignment. The Giants went with outfielders Conner Joe and Michael Reed, who are no longer with the team. At the time, it appeared the Giants had moved on from Williamson. But he cleared waivers and went back to Sacramento.

In his season debut on Tuesday night, Williamson hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning and added an RBI single later in the game. He finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs. The Giants won the game 14-4.

San Francisco desperately needs some power in the lineup, and Williamson could provide just that. Hopefully, he can continue to hit on the major league level and stay healthy this time around. Williamson could be a shot in the arm for a struggling Giants offense.
