CW: Child Abuse

With the 2019 NFL draft underway, there is a more alarming narrative taking place in Kansas City. Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill’s child abuse case has been re-opened, and new audio was released showcasing Hill and his fiancé, Crystal Espinal, talking about the case.

The audio produces a stunning narrative, commenting that both Hill and Espinal hit their child and that Hill even uses his belt to hit his three-year-old son. It was released the day after Johnson County District Attorney Stephen M. Howe said that charges won’t be filed in the case.

Espinal says in the audio clip, “And they said time and time again that (—), literally, (—) kept saying, “Daddy punches me.” Which you do when he starts crying. What do you do? You make him open his arms and you punch him in the chest. And then if he gets in trouble you get the belt out.”

In response to Espinal saying that their son is terrified of him, Hill states “you should be terrified of me too, b—-. That’s why you can’t keep a f—— man, n—-.”

Tyreek Hill is barred from all Kansas City Chiefs activities indefinitely until more details are released in his case surrounding the audio. The Chiefs said that they are “deeply disturbed” by the situation.

The NFL is still investigating the case before them, and have not decided a verdict for Hill.

Neither Hill nor Espinal has custody of the child, but Espinal has been granted permission to have supervised visits with him. The child has been placed into the custody of another family that he knows, with no relation to him.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had their issues in the past with abusers, with Kareem Hunt being cut from the team earlier this year due to a domestic abuse scandal. For now, it might be best for the Chiefs to prioritize adding a wide receiver.
