For the first time in almost two months, the Boston Bruins came up empty-handed. The Bruins battled throughout the game and gained some momentum late in the third against Pittsburgh, but unfortunately, an empty-net goal ended the chances of keeping the Bruins point streak alive.
Boston had a 15-0-4 record in its previous 19 games for the franchise’s longest point streak since 1940-41.
David Krejci scored to put the Bruins on the board and picked up his 19th of the season. Then John Moore scored for the B’s with a little over a minute remaining in the third period, giving the Boston a rush of momentum.
Unfortunately, the momentum didn’t last long as the Penguins’ Jared McCann scored an empty-netter with 21 seconds left and handed the Bruins their first regulation loss since January against the Rangers.
Another concern for the B’s coming off of their 19-game point streak is the injury to Matt Grzelcyk. The defenseman left in the second period after his right arm was pinned awkwardly against the boards as he was hit by Pittsburgh’s Patric Hornqvist.
Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald has reported that x-rays on Grzelcyk’s arm came back negative for any major injuries. The Bruins will most likely release an update on his injury either today or prior to the Blue Jackets game tomorrow.
The Bruins will face the Colombus Blue Jackets for the first time this season on Tuesday in Columbus with hopes to get back on the winning track.
