Checking in With the Fans: 2019 Winter Classic Jerseys

The Boston Bruins released their 2019 Winter Classic jerseys last Thursday, Nov. 8 for which they are to wear during the New Year’s Day event at Notre Dame Stadium.

The sweaters were designed as a tribute to the uniforms the team wore during the 1930s—featuring a new stripe down the sleeve, a felt logo, numbering and lettering, and six shamrocks inside the collar highlighting each year the Bruins won the Stanley Cup.

“I love them,” Bruins fan Caden Smith said. “They’re retro. They’re pretty popular, I see everyone around wearing them which is great.”

For a jersey that was released just last week, it seems to have grown popular among the fans.  When the design leaked just a couple days before the release, fans were not thrilled with them. It was hard to distinguish if the dark coloring was black or brown which would make a huge difference either way.

Many fans expressed their opinions on the jerseys—some liked them, some did not.

“The 2010 ones were way better,” said Brody Lewis.

Also in reference to the 2010 Winter Classic jersey, Chloe McMann said that she likes the stripe pattern more and the yellow color made the jersey better than the other two.

When I first saw the jersey’s, which was on my phone, I will admit I was a bit disappointed. I was hoping for a little more. But after seeing the jersey in person, my opinion changed. Seeing the numbering and the added details like the patch and felt, it made this simple jersey more unique.

It will be interesting to see how they match up against the Chicago Blackhawks’ jerseys, especially with the black and white color scheme.
