The New England Revolution host the Montreal Impact at Gillette Stadium for the final game of the season Sunday afternoon.
The Impact comes to Foxborough needing a victory over the Revolution and a Columbus Crew loss to secure a last-minute spot in the MLS Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Revolution are coming off a disappointing 4-1 loss to Real Salt Lake after conceding three goals in the first half and one quickly at the start of the second. A Kelyn Rowe goal provided the only consolation for the side.
Montreal has been on a hot streak, winning three of their last five and their last two games in a row. Their last game was a convincing 2-0 victory over Toronto FC as forward Ignacio Piatti’s double kept the Impact’s playoff hopes alive heading to New England.
Last time these teams faced early in the season, the Impact earned a 4-2 win over the Revolution in Montreal, as a Wilfried Zahibo late double was not enough to get New England back into the game in early May.
Revolution manager Brad Friedel will surely hope his side can end the season on a high note, and see out their disappointing bottom half finish along with a third consecutive season without playoff soccer with a victory over the playoff-hopeful Impact.
