Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri received a charging major and a game misconduct after executing a dangerous hit on Bruins forward Tommy Wingels.
The incident happened halfway through the third period of game one of the quarterfinals match-up between the Maple Leafs and the Bruins. Wingels was caught down low against the boards with his knees on the ice in a scrum for the puck. Kadri came in from the center of the ice and into the vulnerable Wingels, making his hip the main point of contact against Wingels’ head.
Five minutes prior, Kadri had been in the penalty box for a boarding minor against Wingels.
Kadri was handed a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct which ejected him for the rest of the game. Often, game misconducts are grounds for a one-game suspension for the next game. The NHL’s department of player safety announced that Kadri will have a hearing for his hits on Wingels.

Wingels left the game after the incident and did not return. After the game, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said Wingels was still being evaluated, and would most likely receive news of his condition Friday.
