With the NHL trade deadline of Feb. 26 quickly approaching, it’s important for the Boston Bruins to take a good look at where they were at the beginning of the season and consider what moves, if any, benefit them the most.
The Bruins have been one of the best teams in the NHL this year, sitting second place in the Eastern Conference with 72 points. They also find themselves just three points back from the NHL’s best Tampa Bay Lightning, who currently have 75 points.
The Bruins dominant play has earned them second place in CBS Sports’ Power Rankings and is in large part thanks to the great play on both offense and defense coming from the Bruins right now.
The most interesting thing to note about this Bruins team is how young it is. The level of play that this team has seen from a group of guys that is relatively inexperienced is impossible to explain. They went on an amazing point streak and are still red hot.
With the trade deadline quickly approaching, there haven’t been very many trade rumors involving the Bruins. They seem to be relatively content with the team they have, and with the way they’ve been playing, they have earned the right to feel so.
The only part of this Bruins team that could possibly be in line for a trade is the goalie position. With both Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin playing extremely well this season, it seems realistic to think that the Bruins could try to trade one of them away in order to pick up someone to strengthen one of their offensive lines. Even then, it doesn’t seem like their offensive lines need any help.
We won’t have to wait long to see if the Bruins are considering any trades or not as the deadline is coming. With that said, this team seems pretty solid with its current roster.
