Red Sox Player Fires Agent Due to Ongoing Investigation

Agent Jason Wood, who represented Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi, was fired from his agency Wednesday after allegations that he placed cameras in his client’s showers.

According to FanRagSports, a player who wished to remain unnamed recently discovered one of the cameras while using a shower in Wood’s St. Louis home. The player confronted Wood and promptly fired him. Multiple sources have now claimed that several more unidentified players have also been filmed showering by Wood.

Wood’s agency, Career Sports Entertainment Talent, fired him shortly after the accusations became public. The president of the agency, Danny Martoe, commented on the situation in a statement to Yahoo Sports.

“For over 32 years, CSE Talent has prided itself on our moral and ethical standards and have built a solid reputation within the industry,” Martoe said. “We take pride in working with people who represent those values. It’s unfortunate that CSE aligned itself with someone who didn’t uphold these same standards and therefore we chose to terminate with cause Wood’s employment.”

CSE acquired Wood’s original agency, Arland Sports last April and made him president of its baseball division. The agency is already searching for a replacement, but several players have already jumped ship from CSE and have hired new representation, or plan to do so very soon.

Beyond Benintendi, Wood also represented Mariners pitcher David Phelps and Rays pitcher Jake Ordozzi, among others.

The MLB Players Association has suspended Wood and is currently investigating the situation. The suspension prevents him from representing any MLB players, and the investigation could result in the Players Union decertifying him. Wood has declined to comment thus far.
