Looking Forward
In a game showcasing two young quarterbacks, fans wanted to see if the new regime in Chicago could influence Caleb Williams and his playmaking or if J.J. McCarthy would be the next quarterback the Vikings were looking for.
Williams, for most of the game, looked like the quarterback with experience under his belt. As the game progressed, perhaps Williams became too complacent, and the offensive play stalled. There is no need for fans to panic just yet. However, if this becomes a regular theme during games, no amount of “getting used to a new offense scheme” as an excuse will be accepted. The loss cannot be blamed on Williams alone. Multiple miscues on both sides of the ball and on special teams were a contributing factor.
McCarthy missed his whole rookie season due to a knee injury, but Minnesota decided to give him the chance to be the starter after letting Sam Darnold go. Vikings fans can chalk up the slow start to McCarthy’s nerves. Despite a pick-six that could have gone either way in affecting McCarthy’s state of mind on the field, he was able not to let it get to him. McCarthy was able to get touchdown passes to Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones, and the running game with Jordan Mason looked decent.
Week 2 finds the Vikings preparing to take on the Atlanta Falcons, while the Bears will arrive in Detroit hoping to defeat another division rival.
