Final Score: Kansas City Chiefs 17, Philadelphia Eagles 21

In a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles emerged victorious over the Kansas City Chiefs. Entering the game, fans expected to see a shootout, but in reality, it all came down to the defenses. The Chiefs had the Eagles’ number in the first half, and then the script was flipped, and Philadelphia’s defense was able to keep the Chiefs out of the endzone. It also did not help that the receivers for the Chiefs couldn’t handle the ball. This gave Philadelphia the momentum and victory by a score of 21-17.

The game started off interesting, with each team going three and out. Both QBs were sacked. Then the Chiefs scored a touchdown, and when Philadelphia got the ball back, they scored a touchdown. It looked like it was going to be a back-and-forth game. However, that is not what happened.

The defenses for both teams stepped up. After the first sack on the first drive, Jalen Hurts was sacked four more times in the first half. The Chiefs were able to get into the endzone for another touchdown and then a field goal. It looked like both offenses had issues with completions and moving the ball down the field.

The game was Kansas City’s to lose. And they did. It didn’t help that the Eagles forced a couple of turnovers in the red zone, one of which was a fumble by Travis Kelce. However, Marquez Valdes-Scantling‘s drop with 1:50 left was the real difference in the game and sealed the victory for the Eagles.

Looking Forward

With this win, the Eagles stay in the number one seed for the NFC playoffs; on the other side, Kansas City is now the number two seed behind the Baltimore Ravens. There are still several weeks of football left to determine playoff spots, but there is no doubt both teams will be in the mix for another run at the Lombardi.

Going forward, the Chiefs need to find a solution to the issues on offense. Their defense is the best it has been in years and will likely not be this great for the next few years due to contracts coming up and the ability to play players. If they want another chance at a trophy, all of the receivers need to buckle down and learn how to keep ahold of the ball. Their downfall in the playoffs will be this offense, providing no one on the defense is injured over these remaining games. Some might see this as poor drafting or free agency decisions; others might see it as the loss of Eric Bieniemy has caused a vacuum in the offense that Matt Nagy cannot fill. Either way, no matter the cause, a solution is needed. Perhaps Patrick Mahomes needs to have a come-to-Jesus moment with his receivers.

The Eagles are sitting pretty right now atop the NFC. Their next three games will be the most challenging part of the remaining season. They will face the Buffalo Bills, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Dallas Cowboys. After that, the Seattle Seahawks might give them a run for their money; however, beyond those games, they will face the New York Giants twice and the Arizona Cardinals. Unless something catastrophic occurs, they will likely remain the number one seed. They do have the Detroit Lions breathing down their neck in the number two spot.

For week 13, the Eagles (9-1) host the Buffalo Bills (6-5) on Sunday, while the Chiefs (7-3) travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders (5-6).
