Play & Odds: St. Louis Blues/Ottawa Senators OVER 6.5 (+100)
Justification:
As frequently seen in the National Hockey League (NHL), the total for this afternoon’s tilt between the St. Louis Blues (26-26-3) and Ottawa Senators (26-24-4) comes in at 6.5. I’m siding with the OVER (+100), and here’s why.
In the span of just ten days, the Blues managed to off-load Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan O’Reilly, and Noel Acciari. So it is safe to say that the retool/rebuild on the fly is alive and well in the Midwest. In addition, the Blues have mightily struggled in their own end, having allowed 3.57 goals-per-game. However, on offense, the Blues average 3.13 goals per game and should be able to get to Mads Sogaard, who is the scheduled starter for the Sens, early and often today. We all know the Sens can score, but their inability to keep the puck out of their own net has been a significant problem in Canada’s capital city this season.
After Jordan Binnington got the start yesterday, St. Louis will likely turn to backup Thomas Greiss on a quick turnaround, having lost 4-1 to the Colorado Avalanche less than 24 hours ago. Injuries (and subtractions) are beginning to mount for a Blues team that clearly has its eyes on the future. Given the current state of both franchises, I think this game has all the makings of a goal-fest. Do not hesitate with this one, folks; take the OVER at +100.
