The NBA trade deadline and LeBron James overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in scoring could happen in the same week. All eyes will be on Feb. 7 and 9 as possible dates for history to be written. Those days feature home games for the Los Angeles Lakers, too, which makes that event more memorable.
Let us see what other games are fascinating to follow for the upcoming week (Feb. 6 to 12).
Feb. 6: Utah Jazz vs. Dallas Mavericks
There is nothing more valuable in basketball than players who can score, intimidate, and defend. That is Walker Kessler right now. He is worth a lot to the Jazz because of his recent play. He already has two games with seven blocks. The Mavericks are probably changing some of their set plays right now because they know Kessler can swat those shots away.
Feb. 7: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
It is time to give Shai Gilgeous-Alexander some respect. The fifth-year player evolved from a player with potential into an All Star-worthy baller. He is inspiring his teammates and pushing the squad to grab that last play-in spot. Oklahoma City will meet the Lakers for the first time this season. Let us see what he can do under the bright lights of Los Angeles.
Feb. 8: Portland Trail Blazers vs. Golden State Warriors
Damian Lillard is on an absolute rampage. His value has been rising over the last couple of games as he has established himself as the “go-to” guy yet again. This Lillard versus Stephen Curry duel could lead to something special. One can sense that at least one of them is going to score 50 points. Don’t forget about Klay Thompson, who can light it up from three-point land, too.
Feb. 9: Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls
Nic Claxton is on the path to greatness. The towering center is already rocking it for one of the best teams and he is only getting started. One only has to look at his stats from last month to realize his potential. Now, he faces the Bulls, who have a 2-0 lead in the season series. Claxton, who was outplayed by Bulls center Nikola Vucevic in their last encounter, will be looking for a better performance this time.
Feb. 11: Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The last time these teams met was on Day 1 of the NBA season. The Lakers lost by 14 points and are looking forward to showing off their new weapon, Rui Hachimura, for the second meeting. When they made the trade to get Hachimura, the Lakers were clearly thinking of the Warriors. After all, all roads lead to the Bay Area if you want to dominate the Western Conference.
