Gates’ Top Team From Week 16

Week 16

The NFL regular season is nearing its end; only two more full weeks of action remain.

Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars were dubbed our Team of the Week. For Week 16, that honor belongs to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes is Him

Needless to say, the Chiefs have been unstoppable. Patrick Mahomes is on pace for another MVP season.  Mahomes went 16-for-28 with 224 yards and two touchdowns against a Seattle Seahawks defense that consists of one of the best cornerbacks in the league, Tariq Woolen.

Kansas City liked what it saw from their running backs, rookie Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon. Pacheco ran 14 times for 58 yards while also adding 32 receiving yards.

McKinnon got more involved in the passing game with three receptions for 31 yards and one touchdown.

Travis Kelce: Mr. Consistent

Travis Kelce has been consistent even without arguably the best wide receiver in football, Tyreek Hill. Kelce had six catches for 113 yards versus the Seahawks and was the only receiver to amass 100-plus yards in this game.

JuJu Smith-Schuster assisted in the receiving game with three receptions for 27 yards. Kadarius Toney also contributed with one catch for eight yards and a touchdown.

Chiefs’ Team Stats

Kansas City totaled 297 yards of offense (220 passing yards and 77 rushing yards), good for an average of almost six yards per play. They possessed the ball for just 24 minutes and 58 seconds, markedly less than Seattle’s 35 minutes and two seconds.

So, even though Seattle dominated numerous offensive categories on the stat sheet, Kansas City still found a way to win, 24-10.

Pressure! Pushing Down on Geno!

The Chiefs were able to put pressure on Geno Smith. Rookie George Karlaftis III broke up a pass late in the fourth quarter. Kansas City sacked Smith once, courtesy of Chris Jones. Juan Thornhill logged the Chiefs’ lone pick.

Final Thoughts

The Chiefs are on a roll, and they only have to worry about the Buffalo Bills getting in their way of the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
