MLB DFS 7/11: Monday Markdowns and Markups

MLB DFS andrus 2022

We’re back for another go ’round in the MLB DFS world and have found consistent success of late. With an eight game slate popping off at 7:10pm EDT, there is no time to waste. There are excellent values around the diamond that enable us to be thrifty on some players before spending like we own the place to finish the lineup. Let’s find those values and then make it rain on the rest. As always, I’ll list the featured values first, and then give a pick at each remaining position afterwards. Check those price tags early and then spend like it ain’t yours afterwards.

Make sure to bookmark our DFS page for our daily lineup picks.

Value on the Hill

Miles Mikolas – vs Philadelphia ($8,800)

The pitching choices tonight are fairly well priced, giving us plenty of flexibility on options. Mikolas has quietly been pretty consistent in 2022. He’s not fanning batters at any particularly alarming rate (just seven K/9) but he is only walking 1.9/9 and carries a 0.99 WHIP into the matchup. Philly has scored well on the road this season, but also goes down swinging an average of eight times per game. Expect St. Louis go get their lumber on a fair amount of Aaron Nola fastballs and make life easier for their “Lizard King” on the mound. Mikolas may cough up a couple runs, but he should get through six innings with high-strikeout potential before pocketing a victory.

Best Pairing: Merrill Kelly – at San Francisco ($7,600)

This is a terrific bargain price for the Diamondbacks’ pitcher. He just faced his division rival five days ago, where he pitched into the seventh inning while allowing two hits and two runs. He fanned six batters in the contest. Kelly has not gotten a lot of attention for a guy that’s 7-5 on the season. He is 4-2 in seven starts since June 11 while holding opponents to a .209 batting average.

Value in the Field

Elvis Andrus, SS – at Texas ($2,800)

For a player that has a trio of homers in his past nine games, $2.8K seems like a fair price to say the least. In fact, the 33-year-old has picked up the pace in the month of July. Aside from the homers, Andrus also has four walks, two doubles, and six runs batted in over the last eight games with an OPS resting at 1.065 during that stretch. He’ll dig in against Rangers pitcher Spencer Howard, who has pitched 10.2 innings in 2022 and is shouldering a 10.97 ERA and 1.88 WHIP.

Franmil Reyes, OF – vs Chicago White Sox ($3,400)

Reyes has largely been a disappointment for fantasy players this season, mostly due to an anemic .212 average at the dish. However, he’s been picking up the pace of late. The Cleveland outfielder has 10 hits in 41 at bats during the month of July, including a pair of doubles and four moonshots with the boomstick. He has improved his BAbip to .273 over those 10 games and brings an .848 OPS to the table. Lance Lynn has lost quite a bit of velocity this season, and he’ll toe the slab for the White Sox in this matchup. He comes in with an ERA over 5.00 and a 1.33 WHIP.

Gavin Sheets, OF – at Cleveland ($2,800)

It’s a gamble, but Sheets might be the best value on the entire docket this evening. A .242/.308/.405 slash line in 2022 isn’t anything to write home about, but if you’re sensing a “recently” theme, you are absolutely right. Sheets kicked off July with with an 0-for-3 night on the first of the month. Even with that, he’s still batting .367 during nine starts this month. He has two long bombs in his last two starts, and 11 hits with 10 total RBI during the July stretch. He’s swinging a hot stick to the tune of a 1.091 OPS.

That’s a serious savings on position players and great values on our pitching. Below are my remaining favorites for spreading your wealth out on the rest of your lineups. There should be plenty of good combinations between this crew and the value picks above.

Other favorite plays: Sean Murphy (C – OAK), Pete Alonso (1B – NYM), Marcus Semien (2B – TEX), José Ramírez (3B – CLE), Randy Arozarena (OF – TB)

Best of luck in all your contests tonight. Let’s fatten our wallets on this slate.
