MLB DFS 6/13: Monday’s Marksmen and Maulers

MLB DFS

It’s the start of another week, and this MLB DFS train keeps on rolling. Many times, Mondays can be a little barren as far as playable slates go. However, tonight we have a nice 10-game whopper kicking off at 7:05pm EDT. We’re gonna find value in the mid-range this evening, followed by a list of potential studs that have played well of late. It should be a fun Monday night for baseball. With temperatures throughout much of the country reaching high levels, hopefully some of our hitters’ baseballs do, too. It’s time to win with solid value picks, so step into the box.

Make sure to bookmark our DFS page for our daily lineup picks.

Value on the Hill

Yu Darvish – at Chicago Cubs ($8,400)

The Cubs have averaged a woeful 1.67 runs per game in their last three outings, dropping them to 19th in the league overall. Darvish has faced his ex team just once since leaving the North Side, and left with a loss. However, it was of the “tough luck” variety. He went seven innings, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out eight. While his punchout numbers are down, 54 Ks in 67.1 innings is still a reasonable 7.2/9. In his last time out, Darvish carried a no-no into the sixth inning and shut out a potent Mets offense. On the season, he is 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. Expect him to come after this Chicago lineup in the Windy City.

Best pairing: Merrill Kelly – vs Cincinnati ($7,900)

Value in the Field

Jeremy Pena, SS – at Texas ($4,300)

The 24-year-old rookie has been a great story in Houston. Now even more so, as he’s begun flashing the speed that fans have been waiting for. He’s up to six steals now, and three of those have come in his last five times. That bodes well for DFS players, as guys who can stuff the stat sheet are incredibly valuable. He has four multi-hit affairs in the month of June, and is coming off a big performance at home against Miami where he scored twice, drove in two, smacked his ninth dinger, and stole a base for the second game in a row. Line him up against southpaw Taylor Hearn (4-4, 5.40) in Arlington.

Joey Votto, 1B – at Arizona ($4,500)

First basemen who can knock are expensive. Don’t look now, but Votto is starting one of his patented renaissances after a slow start. An 0-for-3 effort on Sunday snapped a nice 10-game hitting streak. During said streak, the Canadian slugger slashed .333/.442/.694 (huge OPS of 1.136), socking three ding-dongs and a quartet of doubles while driving in 12 runs. He also walked seven times and scored eight runs. Votto’s overall numbers may not be that impressive, but smart fans know that when he gets hot, he can be scorching. Even against a tough righty in Kelly, the Reds’ first baseman is a bargain at $4.5K.

Bryan Reynolds, OF – at St. Louis ($3,900)

With the work the Pirates’ outfielder has done lately, this price is a steal and saves you some dollars for elsewhere. Thus far in June, Reynolds is hitting .410 with a 1.095 OPS to go along with it. He’s got three homers (two in his last two games) and matching sevens in the runs and RBI columns. Not unlike Votto, when Reynolds gets going, he can smack the ball all over the yard. Line him up against rookie Zack Thompson making his first start. Thus far with the big league club, Thompson has only a four-inning save to his credit. He’s bound to have some jitters.

Stud Finder: Santiago Espinal (3B – TOR), Willson Contreras (C – CHC), Austin Hays (OF – BAL), Nolan Gorman (2B – STL)

Best of luck with all of your lineups tonight. Let’s build that bankroll for the rest of the week’s contests.
