Germany has gone through hard times since winning its fourth world title in 2014. Four years ago, Die Mannschaft finished at the bottom of their group. A 2-0 loss against South Korea officially ended their title defense. Two losses in the group stage with a negative 2-goal differential. Their worst performance in a World Cup since 1938. To say that Germany was embarrassed and humiliated would be an understatement.

The disappointment continued into the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League, as well as Euro 2020. The time came for a change and longtime manager Joachim Löw stepped down and his former assistant Hans-Dieter Flick took over. Flick previously managed Bayern Munich where we won two Bundesliga titles along with a Champions League title, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup. Die Mannschaft has yet to lose under Flick.
Is Germany in the title picture?
Their four World Cups and three European titles speak for themselves, but the reasons for their chances of winning it all in Qatar go far beyond their past accomplishments. Regardless of what happened to Die Mannschaft four years ago or last summer at Euro 2020, there’s no reason for them to be counted out of the title picture. The team is experienced and talented, but the reason why they have a chance goes even farther than that.
Germany’s under a new direction, management, and leadership now, and so far it’s been going well for them. They’re making progress in retaining a winning mentality again. In other words, the team is slowly but surely becoming its old self again. Now that they’re finding their groove, that makes them a favorite because having their groove means that they play as a team and have a winning mentality, which increases their chance of winning it all. In addition, they’re focused and motivated, which makes them even more dangerous. Furthermore, the team has a brilliant mindset and vision, which solidifies them as a convincing favorite.
