Toeing the Slab

Kyle Hendricks ($7,500 DK, $7,100 FD) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

The Chicago Cubs right-hander completely shut down the San Diego Padres last time out, going 8 2/3 shutout innings while striking out seven. Today, he faces an offense in the Diamondbacks that ranks near the bottom of the majors in several offensive categories. They rank 30th in batting average (.198), 25th in runs per game (3.63), and 27th in strikeout rate (25 percent) on the season. Hendricks hasn’t had a great season overall. But against a terrible offense, he should be able to give some distance and rack up the punchouts.

George Kirby ($7,800 DK, $8,500 FD) vs. New York Mets

Kirby was phenomenal in his major league debut against the Tampa Bay Rays last Sunday. He struck out seven and allowed just four baserunners in six scoreless innings. The right-hander was promoted from Double-A Arkansas and now looks to take over the fifth spot in the Seattle rotation. Since 2019, he holds a 2.34 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and a 137 to 20 strikeout to walk rate in 115 1/3 minor-league innings. He now faces a Mets lineup that has struggled of late, despite being one of the better offenses in the league overall. The Mets have gone four straight games without scoring more than four runs and have struck out 24 times over those games. Kirby has the stuff to shut down the Mets’ lineup for the second straight day after the Mariners won 2-1 yesterday.

Kicking the Dirt

DJ LeMahieu ($4,400DK, $3,400 FD)

The 33-year-old has been on fire for the Yankees, going 6-for-18 in his last four games. LeMahieu did go hitless in five at-bats on Friday but drove in a run on an RBI grounder. Against left-handers in his career, he has hit .319 with 30 homers and an .836 OPS. He hasn’t done well against Dallas Keuchel, but it’s a small sample – 1-for-6. While other big boppers like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have been the center of attention, LeMahieu has quietly returned to 2019-20 form. With the way the Yankees’ lineup has been rolling of late, he will get his share of chances to come up big.

Trey Mancini ($3,700 DK, $2,800 FD)

Mancini kept rolling yesterday, extending his hitting streak to seven games. He has gotten hits in nine of his last ten games to begin the month of May. It’s an extremely small sample, but Mancini is 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI against Michael Pineda in his career. Against right-handers in his career, he is hitting .270 with a .791 OPS and 72 homers. On the season, he has an xwOBA of .371 and a 47.7 percent hard-hit rate. Look for him to extend his hitting streak to eight games against Pineda and the Tigers.

In The Grass

Giancarlo Stanton ($4,900 DK, $3,500 FD)

For the third straight game on Friday, Stanton smashed a homer after launching two on Thursday night and one on Wednesday. Against southpaws in his career, the slugger has a .994 OPS and 96 homers, including 4-for-9 with two homers and five RBI against Keuchel. Nothing seems to be stopping Stanton right now, and he has gone 7-for-12 over the last three games with the four homers and 11 RBI. With the Yankees going for the sweep, the big man is going to keep mashing. The ball has also been flying out of Guaranteed Rate Field in south Chicago and Stanton has been hitting the ball very hard.

Julio Rodriguez ($4,000 DK, $3,000 FD)

The Mariners rookie outfielder saw his six-game hitting streak come to an end on Friday, but he has been smacking the ball. In May, Rodriguez has gone 14-for-45 (.311) with one homer and five RBI. He has a 50 percent hard-hit rate on the season and looks to start a new hitting streak against Chris Bassitt and the Mets today. He has struggled against right-handers this season, but his one homer came against a righty.

Good luck with your MLB DFS lineups today!
