Tennessee Titans vs. Denver Broncos: Recap and Highlights

The Titans faced the Broncos at Empower Stadium at Mile High in Week 6 of the 2019 NFL season. Here is my recap and highlights from the game.

Tennessee entered this game off a loss at home against the Bills, a game where kicker Cairo Santos missed three field goals and had another one blocked. Santos was cut this week.

Denver came in off of a win against the Chargers, which was head coach Vic Fangio’s first career coaching victory.

The Titans got the ball first. Denver’s defense forced them to punt. The punt was returned 42 yards and eight plays later, kicker Brian McManus connected on a 31-yard field goal attempt. The next drives saw the teams exchanged punts until McManus would hit a 53-yard field goal with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Right before the end of the half, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota threw his first interception of the season. It found the hands of Chris Harris, who became the 12th Bronco ever to record 20 career interceptions.

The Broncos led at halftime, 6-0.

At the half, the Broncos inducted former owner Pat Bowlen and former cornerback Champ Bailey into their ring of honor.

The Broncos got the ball to start the second half. Titans safety Kevin Byard would pick off a Joe Flacco pass to end the drive. After exchanging three-and-outs, Marcus Mariota threw his second interception of the game. The Broncos would capitalize off the turnover, as Phillip Lindsay ran it in from two yards out. After the Titans got the ball back, Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel benched Mariota in favor of former Dolphins signal caller, Ryan Tannehill, much to the delight of a large portion of the fanbase. With Tannehill, it was more of the same: three-and-outs, missing receivers, and taking sacks — including one on fourth down in the red zone. The Broncos added three more on a McManus 48-yard field goal, and Denver won, 16-0.

Denver’s defense sacked Marcus Mariota three times and Ryan Tannehill four times. They also held the Titans to 39 rushing yards and 165 yards through the air.

The victory puts the Broncos at 2-4, while the loss also puts the Titans at 2-4.

The Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night, while the Titans host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
