CBB AP Poll Reaction: Week 12

AP Poll reaction auburn

College basketball rolls on as we are well into conference play. Last week saw some big-time games and a new No. 1 team. With bigger games coming up this week, the voters will continue to have a tough task with all these top-end teams, but let’s check out this week’s AP Poll first.

Check out last week’s edition here.

Auburn is No. 1 for the First Time in History

It feels like we talk about Auburn every week here, but for good reason. The Tigers defeated Kentucky in a thriller last week, and ascended to the top spot over Gonzaga. This is clearly the best team in the nation right now, and they should continue their winning ways for a little while.

Mistakes in the Back

TCU defeated Iowa State last week, but remains unranked. The 13-3 Horned Frogs deserve to be ranked in the 20s, especially over teams like six-loss Marquette. Illinois staying in the Top 25 after losing to a horrible Maryland team is a bit ridiculous too, with Loyola Chicago waiting in the wings.

Big-Program Bias Still in Effect

Teams like Duke are still in the top 10, but for no real reason. The Blue Devils are 4-3 in Quads 1 and 2, and need to be knocked down a peg. Teams like Wisconsin, Michigan State, even Kentucky and Texas Tech have better resumes than Duke. The team ranked highest at the beginning will always stay near the top, it seems.
