Is there something wrong with the new Wilson basketball? Some NBA players are having a tough time out there. It’s puzzling and weird that you now have to pray for their cold streak to end even if you’re not a fan of the team they play for. The season is only about two weeks old so there’s plenty of time to see them recover as the NBA season goes on. It’s time to take a look at four out of the many players that are having a rough start.
Cade Cunningham
Fans should be patient with the rookie but shooting 3-22, including 0-14 from three-point land, should be alarming especially if you were recently selected as the No. 1 pick. Memories of Summer League highlights are still fresh in the minds of the fans and that’s probably why they expected more. His career is only two games old though and fans of the Detroit Pistons should back off a little bit and give him time to settle down.
Damian Lillard
It is shocking to know that this superstar for the Portland Trail Blazers is in a shooting slump since he is known to be one of the most consistent shooters out there. Out of 65 three-point attempts in his first seven games, only 15 were successful. Is he injured? Is he tired from lack of rest? One must remember that he did play meaningful minutes during the Olympics in Japan. It’s still early in the season and shooting his way out of this slump is still possible.
Jordan Clarkson
It’s clear to see that last year’s Sixth Man of the Year awardee wants to continue his hot streak off the bench. It’s evident with his trigger-happy ways this season. We’re sure he has the green light to shoot but the problem is that they’re not going in at a high rate. He has currently made only 13-65 on three-pointers. The Utah Jazz have a 6-1 record right now and that winning record is probably why no one has a problem with Clarkson’s shooting woes.
Kevin Porter Jr.
The Houston Rocket guard has a different kind of slump. He already has 37 turnovers in seven games. Can we blame him? John Wall was supposed to be the point guard but might sit out the season until a trade is made possible. So we can forgive Porter for being clumsy and racking up turnovers. He was the next best player available to handle point guard duties. There’s a glimmer of hope though. He already has three games with eight or more assists which means the effort is there.
Remember it’s Only Temporary
You could say they lost their “mojo” but these players are going to find it before we know it. If they can just have a few games where everything goes right, they’ll be able to get their confidence back. Even unknown players can have good games out of nowhere. So you know those good games are going to happen to these players soon. When that happens, we’ll all be there to cheer them on.
