Week 5 Fantasy Football Busts

Fantasy Football Busts

Choosing the players who will succeed and benching the ones who will not is essential to winning in fantasy football. Each week, fantasy owners will have to make the tough decision to put a player they like on the bench because the truth is that players a bust. The willingness to do so is what separates good fantasy owners from bad ones. Let’s take a look at five players who could bust in Week 5.

Trey Lance – QB, San Francisco 49ers (vs ARI)

Lance took over for Jimmy Garoppolo in the second half of the 49ers game last week and was productive making him a priority for many on the waiver wire this week. However, fantasy owners should be cautious starting him. The Arizona Cardinals have allowed the ninth least points in the NFL to opposing quarterbacks and the 49ers could lean on an even more run-heavy offense than they already do to take pressure off Lance.

Javonte Williams – RB, Denver Broncos (vs PIT)

The Broncos backfield is unpredictable with Melvin Gordon and Williams sharing touches and they have a tough matchup this week making Williams a must-sit on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Steelers have allowed the fifth least points in the league to running backs they have faced, and since the two backs split touches, both could underperform in Week 5.

Diontae Johnson – WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs DEN)

Johnson had a stellar Week 4 scoring 24.2 fantasy points, but things could change for the worst this week. The Denver Broncos defense is in the middle of the pack against wide receivers. However, with Chase Claypool‘s return and the Broncos’ elite defensive line pressuring Ben Rothlisberger, Johnson’s production could decrease.

Michael Pittman Jr. – WR, Indianapolis Colts (vs BAL)

Pittman has been a solid flex option so far this year, but things could change against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens defense has allowed the sixth-least points to opposing receivers and since Pittman is only scoring 12.9 fantasy points per game, starting a different flex would be a smart offense this week.

Jared Cook – TE, Los Angeles Chargers (vs CLE)

Cook has been on-and-off for fantasy purposes this year and has managed to average 10 fantasy points a game. However, he could have a rough week against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns defense has been outstanding and held Tyler Conklin to just 5.8 fantasy points last week. They are allowing the ninth least points to tight ends they face, meaning Cook could bust in Week 5.
