CFB Prospects to Watch: Week 5

NFL Players

As we enter Week 5, there is still a ton to figure out with this year’s draft. We know a good amount of the top players, but the back-end guys are still really unknown. Here, we’ll try to figure out who some of these players are with their individual matchups each week.

Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss

Yes, we love looking at our lower-round players in this series but Corral going up against Alabama is way too much to pass upon. With the quarterback class being an absolute mess right now, someone has to come out and establish themselves as top quarterback and Corral has the best opportunity to do so. A big performance this week will almost certainly vault him past whoever anyone has at the top spot, but remember, it’s not all about stats. This film will go a long way towards our evaluation of Corral and is going to be insightful no matter what.

Chris Rodriguez Jr., RB, Kentucky

A top-five rusher in the country, Rodriguez has given us some Benny Snell Jr. vibes from the days that he dominated in the Wildcats backfield. Now, sitting at 4-0, Rodriguez and Kentucky get to show their worth in this week’s game against Florida. The Gator’s defense has been pretty stout so far so we’ll see how much of an impact this potential mid-round running back can give us.

Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College

Flowers had some serious chatter around his name in the previous offseason. However, it’s gone down a bit due to his starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec‘s injury. Since the injury, Boston College has been incredibly run-reliant and Flowers hasn’t really gotten a chance to go off in any certain game. That doesn’t mean, though, that he hasn’t been good. If you watch closely, you can constantly see Flowers creating separation and getting open. This week against Andrew Booth Jr. and the Clemson defense will be his biggest test yet. If he wins a large number of reps, then we’ll have to start taking some serious notes on this guy.

Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

Llyod is a player who we’ve started to see gain more and more hype the past couple of weeks. He was a relatively known name in the draft circles before the season but now he’s getting recognized throughout college football. Llyod ranks third in the nation in total tackles with 46 and has just been all over the field this entire season. His play so far has certainly earned him a grade of first-round talent, but can he continue to solidify it this week against a talented USC offense?

Kadofi Wright, LB, Buffalo

Now, Wright is a guy that we are starting to like a lot and needs to get more recognition. He’s a force all over the field, forcing fumbles, making stops in the backfield, and coming up with huge open field hits on opponents. This week, Buffalo goes up against Western Michigan who is probably the best team they will play for the remainder of the year. Wright has a big opportunity here to add another action-packed game to his film.
