The Washington Nationals continue to sell at the deadline. They have traded catcher Yan Gomes and infielder Josh Harrison to the Oakland A’s.
Gomes was the Nationals’ main catcher this season playing 61 games behind the plate. He is slashing a solid .271/.323/.454 with nine HRs and 35 RBIs. Gomes could slide right into the A’s catcher rotation as Sean Murphy has had an off-year for Oakland.
Harrison is another 34-year-old Washington decided to move. The infielder is slashing .294/.366/.434 with six bombs and five steals. He has manned second base mostly this year but has also been able to fill in at third and the outfield which gives the Athletics a little flexibility on a night-to-night basis.
The A’s get back catcher, Drew Millas, and right-handed pitchers Seth Shuman and Richard Guasch. All three players were in Advanced-A ball this season with Shuman actually pitching very well to the tune of a 2.25 ERA. Millas is a former seventh-round pick, Shuman, a former sixth-rounder, and Guasch was signed a few years ago out of Cuba.
