Skyrockets are in flight for today’s afternoon delight in MLB DFS. We have a nice seven-game slate starting at 1:00 pm ET. Of course, where you spend up is always a tough choice but as usual, we will take a look at some values so you can save some salary. A couple of arms, a stack, and a few players priced at $4,500 or less is what we have today. Let’s get to it and win some cash.
***All Prices Are DraftKings***
On the Bump
Michael Pineda $8,100 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
The big righty for the Minnesota Twins has been very good through 18 innings this season allowing only two runs with a 17/3 K/BB rate. The matchup is quite favorable to Pineda. The Pirates are not a good hitting team. They are next to last in the NL with a .660 OPS and have only scored three runs per game on the road. They also have scored three runs or fewer in eight of those 13 road games this season. Between Pineda’s hot start and Pittsburgh’s ineptitude at the plate, Big Mike is a solid play.
Brady Singer $6,500 at Detroit Tigers
After a rough first outing against the Texas Rangers, Singer has been very good. In his last two starts, he’s thrown 11 innings giving up a single earned run with a 12/3 K/BB rate. The lineup he faces today is not very scary. The Tigers are last in the AL in runs scored and are next to last in OPS at .649. Detroit also strikes out nearly 10 times a game (197 in 20). Singer should expect some run support today as well. The Royals own Matthew Boyd, but more on that later. Kansas City’s starter is nearly the cheapest pitcher on the slate and should return excellent value.
On the Dirt
Paul DeJong SS $4,200
The 27-year-old shortstop has refound his power stroke this year so far. He has five long balls in just 75 plate appearances after hitting just three in 174 PAs last season. He faces off against lefty Wade Miley who started off well but gave up two HRs in his last outing in the loss. Miley also doesn’t handle righties well as they have a .771 OPS against him while lefties have a .654. DeJong is 2-for-7 with a HR in his career against the Reds left-hander.
Jonathan India 2B $3,600
After a hot start, India cooled off but he may be getting going again. He has a hit in each of his last two games. One of them was his first major league home run and the other was a triple. John Gant is his opponent today. The Cardinals righty has been very hittable in his last two starts allowing 11 hits and eight free passes in 10 innings. With India driving the ball lately and Gant’s propensity for allowing baserunners, the Reds rookie should be a great GPP play.
On the Grass
Alex Verdugo OF $4,400
The young Sox outfielder has been scorching hot going nine for his last 19 with a bomb and a triple. His opponent today, Chris Flexen has looked decent this season but has still allowed 22 hits in 16 innings. Flexen had a bloated 8.07 ERA before this season and gave up 14 HRs and 54 walks in just 68 innings with New York. Verdugo bats second in a lineup followed by some big bats. He also is demolishing righties this year to the tune of a 1.005 OPS. I got last night’s right so with the wind blowing out at Fenway this afternoon, Verdugo is my home run call.
Brandon Nimmo OF $3,600
It’s a little hard to believe that Nimmo is this cheap considering he is slashing .408/.491/.551 this year. The Mets outfielder is leading the league in batting and went yard for the first time last night. He is facing off against Joe Ross who got rocked his last time out giving up four taters in 4.1 innings. Take advantage of this price for Nimmo who owns Ross going 5-for-7 with three walks against the Nats right-hander.
Stack ’em Up
The Royals are very familiar with the Tigers lefty. Hunter Dozier ($3,500), Whit Merrifield ($5,400), Andrew Benintendi ($3,300), and Jorge Soler ($3,800) are a combined 43-for-91 with an OPS of 1.259 against Boyd. Mix and match any of them today especially since three of the four are priced at less than $4,000.
Good Luck Everyone.
