Report: Miami Heat Making a Strong Push for Kyle Lowry

Heat

The NBA trade deadline is this Thursday. Last week, the Miami Heat acquired Trevor Arizat o provide three-point spacing and defense. However, the Heat may not be done dealing yet. According to the Ringer’s Kevin O’Conner, Miami is making a strong push for Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry.

League sources say the Heat are pursuing a deal for Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry harder than anyone, though the Clippers and Sixers retain interest.

O’Conner also adds that Miami is Lowry’s preferred destination if he’s moved. His friendship with Jimmy Butler plays a huge role in that. Adding Lowry to the mix will help ease the playmaking responsibilities for Butler. He’s a great pick-and-roll playmaker and can shoot the three-pointer off the catch. Lowry, who turns 35 on Thursday, is making $30 million on the final year of his deal this season.

What will it take to acquire Lowry? Well, league sources tell O’Conner it’s going to take either Duncan Robinson or Tyler Herro plus fillers to match salaries. Additional draft compensation may be included in Toronto’s asking price. Miami isn’t likely trading for Herro for Lowry. However, Robinson could be another story. With Robinson entering restricted free agency this summer, Miami has to weigh whether they should pay him a huge amount or not.

Whether Miami actually trades Robinson for Lowry remains to be seen. But this is something to watch for in the next few days. The clock is ticking.
