It is officially the greatest time of the year. After a one-year layoff, March Madness is finally back……sort of. Today is the first four play-in games. It is like the soup and salad before we get the prime rib. This is a good day to set the tone for a great tournament, so let’s have a great day.

All lines are courtesy of Jazz Sportsbook, please gamble responsibly.

2020 Record: 25-22-1

Best Bets:

Drake (-1) vs Wichita State

ShanQuan Hemphill will be suiting up for Drake for the first time since Feb. 10th, which is big news for Drake. They were at their best when Hemphill was on the court. Even without him, they have the 19th ranked offense in the country. Drake has also held its opponents to under 30 percent shooting from three. Which could be a big problem for Wichita State. Over 34 percent of their points come from the three-ball. If Drake is able to play their game, they should win this game pretty easily.

UCLA vs Michigan State (-2)

UCLA has never been able to find any consistency this season. When Chris Smith went down with an injury, it almost cemented their fate. This team is very talented, but they just can’t put it all together. Michigan State has practically been the same way but in this tournament, a winning pedigree matters. Very few if any coaches have that type of reputation in March quite like Tom Izzo. If you watch both of these teams closely they are practically the same thing. Talented, but they don’t have a very impressive body of work. The reason to back the Spartans in this game is big wins over Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio State this season. Also, Izzo was made for March.
