Heller Answers His 3 Burning Questions: Houston Texans

Heller answers his 3 burning questions for the Houston Texans

Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Houston Texans

Could a pieced-together secondary be the best in football?

The patched-together secondary had trouble from the beginning of the season through the end. With the star power at receiver in just their division alone (the likes of T.Y. Hilton, A.J. Brown) they gave up entirely too many big plays. That alone is one of the biggest reasons their 2020 record was what it was.

Wait, they traded who?

Deshaun Watson lost his most reliable target, DeAndre Hopkins. Nuk was traded to the Arizona Cardinals prior to the 2020 season. To say the passing game and Watson struggled would be putting it lightly. Brandin Cooks and Will Fuller were solid receiving options for Watson.

Texans head coach Bill O’Brien was fired in October after the team started 0-4. Although the team finished the season 4-12 which was the third-worst record and good for the number three pick in the draft, that pick belongs to the Miami Dolphins as part of the Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills trade from 2019.

As for Watson, he has expressed his frustration with the franchise since the Texans season came to an end. So much so that he has officially requested a trade.

Can Johnson and Johnson be a solid one-two punch?

When they were each healthy David and Duke Johnson had success on the ground. But neither stayed off of the injury report consistently to be consistent. Duke was effective in the screen game for the Texans.

If healthy going forward these two form one of the better one-two punches in the NFL.

Why Mekhi Wingo was a Huge Draft Steal for the Lions

The Detroit Lions traded up in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft to select LSU defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo. One usually doesn’t expect a sixth-round pick to contribute much, but Wingo could be different. There is a reason why he was available that late, but there’s also a boatload of things to like about this prospect, and the pros arguably far outweigh the cons.
