Week 13 Preview: Washington Football Team vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Week 13 Preview: Washington Football Team vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Washington Football Team (4-7) travels to Pittsburgh to take on the undefeated Steelers (11-0) in Week 13. After several players tested positive for COVID-19, the Steelers-Ravens game last week was played on Wednesday. As a result, this week’s game against Washington had to be pushed back to Monday afternoon.

With the NFC East wide open, Washington needs to string together some wins in the final quarter of the season. On the other side, Pittsburgh will need to hold off the Kansas City Chiefs for the top seed in the playoffs in the AFC. With both teams needing a win, this could be a surprisingly good game.

Washington leads the all-time series 42-33-3, though the Steelers have won the last six meetings between the two franchises.

Washington Football Team

Washington dominated the Cowboys 41-16 on Thanksgiving last week. Rookie running back Antonio Gibson had the best game of his career with 25 touches for 132 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns. The Cowboys were shut down all game by the Football Team’s defense. They sacked Andy Dalton four times, forced one fumble, and returned an interception for a touchdown.

Washington enters the week healthy after having nearly two weeks between games. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has battled with an ankle injury the last two weeks was the only player limited in practice. He is expected to play in Monday’s game.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh had trouble scoring on the Ravens defense last week and therefore the game was closer than it should have been. Regardless, they were able to pull away with a 19-14 win.

The Steelers three receivers (Diontae Johnson, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Chase Claypool) combined for 20 catches, 135 yards and a touchdown in the affair. Defensively, T.J. Watt recorded two sacks last week and now leads the league with 11 on the season. Cornerback Joe Haden returned an interception for a touchdown.

Linebacker Bud Dupree suffered a torn ACL last week and will be out for the remainder of the season, a loss of one of the Steelers’ best defenders. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (not injury related) and cornerback Steven Nelson (knee) did not practice this week. Roethlisberger is expected to play while Nelson is listed as doubtful.

Over/Under: O 42.5 (-110) | U 42.5 (-110)

Pittsburgh won’t cover their massive spread, especially against a team who has scored over 20 points every week since Alex Smith took over at quarterback. Both defenses are very good, but take the over in this one.

Prediction

In a matchup between two of the best defenses, this game should be close the whole way. Pittsburgh will win the turnover battle and score the game winning touchdown to beat Washington and retain their perfect record.

Final Score: Washington Football Team 23, Pittsburgh Steelers 27
