Week 12 Preview: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

tom brady

In a potential Super Bowl matchup, the Kansas City Chiefs (9-1) travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers (7-4). This marks the first time in four years the Buccaneers play the Chiefs and more importantly, the fourth career meeting between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes

The Buccaneers lead the all-time series 7-5 and have won the last five games between the two franchises. However, Mahomes will look to break that streak in his first career game against Tampa Bay.

Kansas City Chiefs

Last week the Chiefs won a hard-fought game against the Oakland Raiders. Rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire had himself a night. He racked up 77 scrimmage yards and a career-high two rushing touchdowns. Travis Kelce had eight catches for 127 yards and the game-winning touchdown. Tyreek Hill had a season-high 11 catches to go along with 112 yards receiving.

Injuries aren’t a problem for the Chiefs as everyone on the injury report was able to practice in full capacity at some point this week. All are expected to play on Sunday.

Kansas City currently sits in the number two seed in the AFC, behind the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers. A win against a tough Buccaneers team could go a long way in securing the only first-round bye in the playoffs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay had a brutal loss to the Los Angeles Rams last Monday. Brady had a season-low 54 completion percentage and threw two interceptions. The good news is that Kansas City’s defense is a major step down from the Rams. However, in what should be a shootout, Brady and the Bucs will need to keep up with Mahomes and the Chiefs’ explosive offense.

Unlike Kansas City, injuries have been piling up for Tampa Bay. Offensive linemen Ali Marpet, who has missed the last three games with a concussion, and Donovan Smith are questionable to play this week. Starting cornerback Jamel Dean has already been ruled out for Sunday after being in the concussion protocol all week.

Betting Odds Sponsored by Jazz Sportsbook

Point Spread: KC -3 (-110) | TB +3 (-110)

Moneyline: KC -185 | TB +150

Over/Under: O 56 (-110) | U 56 (-110)

Two of the best offenses going head to head gives no indication of a low scoring game. Take the over and the Buccaneers to cover the spread in this one.

Prediction

Kansas City has relied heavily on the run game when facing tougher opponents. That doesn’t bode well against a top-five Tampa Bay rushing defense. Tons of points will be scored, but the Buccaneers will drill the game-winning field goal and give the Chiefs their second loss of the season.

Final Score: Kansas City Chiefs 31, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34
