Week 10 Recap: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Green Bay Packers

In a game that was expected to be a blowout, the Jacksonville Jaguars kept it close against the Green Bay Packers. The final score of 24-20 was barely off of the predicted 27-20 from earlier in the week from the preview. The Packers fought back from their early struggles to win the game as the defense smothered Jake Luton on the final drive to earn the victory.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Luton was inconsistent a week after a strong showing in his debut. He completed just a touch over half of his passes for 169 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The James Robinson show continued in Jacksonville as the undrafted rookie carried the pigskin 23 times for 109 yards. DJ Chark continues to have a strong season despite the quarterback carousel as he had four catches for 56 yards. Keelan Cole was the MVP for Jacksonville today as he had a 91-yard punt return touchdown as well as a receiving touchdown. The Jaguar offensive line held up until the final drive and paved lanes for Robinson on a day the rushing attack was needed.

Myles Jack had a big game where he recovered a fumble and had eight tackles. Sidney Jones and Joe Schobert led Jacksonville in tackles with nine. Jones has been a good acquisition after the former second-round pick flamed out in Philadelphia. Third-round rookie DaVon Hamilton has had a great season and continued his success this week as he had a sack on Aaron Rodgers. Jones also had an interception off of Rodgers.

Rodgers continued his MVP-like season against Jacksonville. He went 24-of-34 for 325 yards, two passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown, as well as the interception. The duo of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams combined for 21 carries and 76 yards. The duo also accounted for eight of the passing completions for 74 yards. Davante Adams continued his insane production with eight catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. The surprise of the day was Marquez Valdes-Scantling‘s impressive day. He corralled four passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. The offensive line only allowed the sack to Hamilton.

With Jaire Alexander and Kevin King out, the Packers rolled out Chandon Sullivan, Josh Jackson, Ka’dar Hollman, and Stanford Samuels out at cornerback. Thankfully, the cornerbacks didn’t give up too many big plays in the game. In his return off of injured reserve, Christian Kirksey led Green Bay in tackles with seven. Adrian Amos picked off Luton for the lone interception on the day for Luton. Green Bay has struggled to create a consistent pass-rush, and it continued again until the final drive. Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, and Za’Darius Smith all had one sack apiece, including two on the final drive that sealed the victory.

The Jaguars have now lost eight-straight and are fighting with the New York Jets for the top spot in April’s draft. Jacksonville has two more tough games the next two weeks against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. The Packers, meanwhile, extended David Bakhtiari to a four-year extension late on Saturday night, making him the highest-paid offensive linemen in NFL history. Green Bay is now 7-2 and has a big game against the 6-3 Indianapolis Colts next week before their first game against Chicago the following week.
