Hitting the halfway point on the fantasy season. I hope most of yall are staying in contention for a championship. If you are struggling, don’t worry there is still time to make a recovery and possibly steal you a playoff spot, so keep grinding. Let us get down to business.
Defensive Linemen
Chase Young, Bye Week
I am doing it again, another guy to pay attention to as we hit the halfway point. Yes, Young is on a bye this week, but that means he is not being paid attention to and could be a good stash in waivers. Now he is not blowing away anyone with his performances and I get that. Though the snap counts being above 80 percent for games have been promising and the top defensive prospect from the 2020 draft has progressed in a lot of weak areas in his game. Run support being one of those, he showed a lot of promise against Dallas in that category and should continue to make nice strides with the playing time. His lack of ownership is something of note too, he is low owned which means snag him up for the long haul.
Jerry Hughes vs New England Patriots
Hughes had a nice IDP game last week mounting six total tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and an interception. He looked like Aaron Donald out there, but this week I cannot say he will perform the same way though I can say his matchup is quite nice. He faces a Patriots offense who is surrendering the 11th most fantasy points to the defensive end position and sixth most overall to defensive lines with an average of 22 IDP points. The Week 8 bye filler could put in another solid performance and might be a good stash rest of the season. With a banged-up Patriots offensive line, look for Hughes to take advantage.
Linebackers
Robert Spillane vs Baltimore Ravens
I do not normally repeat players, but Spillane is someone that should be mentioned again for how low owned he is. I know he only had three tackles last week, but he got over 75 percent of snaps which is promising in such a good defense. Now facing a Ravens offense that loves to run the ball, he should produce better numbers and even possibly have himself a day.
Avery Williamson vs Kansas City Chiefs
Williamson has a stellar 24 tackles in his last two games. With New York’s defense spending most of the games on the field, Week 8 against the Chiefs gives veteran linebacker Williamson plenty of opportunities to produce a nice stat sheet come Sunday. Williamson is averaging almost 11 tackles per game and added an interception as well. Four out of his six games played this season, he has made a case for top IDP fantasy production.
Defensive Backs
Carlton Davis at New York Giants
I know cornerbacks are rarely worth starting in most IDP formats, but Davis has been performing great rather quietly as of late. He has been playing hurt the past few weeks and shown an incredible fantasy outlook of 30 total tackles and three interceptions for 2020. His snap count is good enough to warrant picking up and starting during the bye weeks.
Ronnie Harrison vs Las Vegas Raiders
While Harrison missed Week 6 with a concussion, he returned to make his second start of the year in Week 7. The Browns started Harrison at strong safety, and he played a snap count of 84 percent, which was his season-high. Harrison led the team with nine total tackles, six being solo and he even made a sack and a fumble recovery. He has made an impact in both of his starts which should warrant more playing time than fellow safety Karl Joseph who seems to be battling a still lingering hamstring injury. Harrison is worth a pickup and stash as we see how the safety roles shake out in Cleveland.
