The Chicago Bears suffered a 14-point loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7 but that doesn’t mean they should go back to their backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky started the season as the team’s starting quarterback but was quickly benched in their third game vs Atlanta. Nick Foles came in and led his team to victory and has been the starter ever since.
Although it was a rough loss at Los Angeles, let’s be clear. There shouldn’t be a quarterback controversy in Chicago this week. It isn’t time to go back to Trubisky. If Chicago were to go back to Trubisky, it wouldn’t send the best message to the locker room. By benching Trubisky, the coaching staff told the players that Trubisky wasn’t the best guy that would help them win. If they go back to him, the players are all of a sudden supposed to believe he’s the right guy?
Monday night wasn’t a good game for him. He threw for no touchdowns and two interceptions, but to be fair, he was playing against one of the best defenses in the league–which includes the best defensive player in the game Aaron Donald. We shouldn’t take too much out of this game because he has already done avenged a bad loss this season. The last time he had a bad game was in their loss vs Indianapolis. He threw an interception and just one touchdown but then he put it past him. The very next week he beat the Tampa Bay Buccanneers–arguably the best team in the NFC–on national television in Tampa.
Chicago just has to hope that Foles will put the Rams game past him and go win a football game next week vs Drew Brees. The Bears have a tough schedule coming up, as they play the Saints, the Titans, and the rival Packers in three of their next four games. Chicago still has a good record, as they’re 5-2. It would be better to stick with Foles at least through the Green Bay game before re-assessing the starting quarterback situation.
